Band is an elected class for 4th-8th grade students that happens throughout the school day. 4th grade students meet 3 days a week. 5-8th grade students meet 4 days a week. Students are not required to know an instrument prior to entrance into the program in 4th grade. After 4th grade, they can talk to Sr. Mary George about the possibility of getting caught up and entering into the program.
There is a $100 supplemental fee to participate in this class. This fee helps to cover the materials used to teach the class, the music, all contest fees, and membership dues required for the students to participate in the Illinois Honors Band. All 5-8th grade students are required to participate in the IESA State Organization Contest as a part of their Class grade, as this requires all of the students in the band. The students have the option to participate in the IESA Solo/Ensemble Contest if they would like, but are not required.
Please Note: This is a class, therefore is treated as a class. When registered, you are enrolled for the entire year.
If you are interested in taking private lessons outside of school, to grow even more in your musical ability, see the link to the page below. (There is a list of private instructors that several of our students have used in the past.)
